Would The New Clan Wars Leagues Save Clash of Clans? Or Is Clash of Clans Dying?

As many of you know, Clash of Clans came out on August 2nd 2012 for the iOS platform.  Almost a year later on October 7th 2013, Clash of Clans was released for the Android platform community.  Supercell has been very successful with this game throughout the years.  With another release coming soon, there’ll be another success or disappointment depending on where you’re sitting right now.

I’ve been playing Clash of Clans since November 2013.  This game was an addiction that I made my wife mad a few times… well, maybe more than a few times. The game was so addicting, to the point that I couldn’t put my phone down.  I had to recharge my phone more often throughout the day, instead of just ones a day like it used to before I got Clash of Clans installed on my phone.  This was always my “to go” game while on my phone until lately.

I’ve noticed that I hardly ever get on my favorite game anymore.  The only thing that I do now days, is get on the game, collect my loot, reset traps, and request troops strictly for defense.  A few days ago while playing, I’ve also noticed that if you keep selecting “Next” for a few times when attacking someone, you’ll find great loot.  Most of these loot will be on the pumps or mines, and not in the storages.  This only tells me that I’m not the only one losing interest on the game.

So I started thinking, what caused the loss of interest on my used to be favorite game?  I started to brainstorm in my own head and realized that I’ll never be maxed out on anything.  Every time that I would be close to upgrading my Town Hall, there would be an announcement “New Town Hall Coming Soon!” alert on my “News” tab.  I’m also not a big spender on games when it comes to cell phone platform games.  I believe that I only spent less the $5.00 about 3 times since I installed the game.  Yes, you can call me cheap, but I’m glad I didn’t spend money on it now considering on what I’ve noticed on the game throughout me playing it.

I kept getting flattened by bigger and better troop’s two or three Town Halls ahead of me.  At one point, there were a lot of what I call “Trophy Dropping” to get to the lower level players for their own benefit.  One think I wish Supercell would have done is Trophy Lock.  My own version of a way to be fair to lower level players.  My own version of “Trophy Lock” would be that the player could only drop within their own League.  For example, if I was on the Crystal League, I couldn’t drop to the Gold League which is the League before the Crystal League.  Trophies do not matter in my opinion unless if you’re in a big competitive clan competing to be the #1 in the world.  In that case, I know for sure that those players in that clan wouldn’t want to drop their trophies.

I did like the new smaller village, but that kind of also killed it for me at the same time.  Sure you can do other things within the game while waiting for something to get upgraded.  But the only problem I have with this is that if I wanted to kill time paying a game within a game, I would just play a different game like Clash Royale or something else.

Needless to say, every time I log into the game, I feel sick to my stomach.  I see a lot of the village destroyed and looted by 200k or more.  Then I start looking at everything that needs to be upgraded with almost the same amount of gold, elixir, and dark elixir from the previous time I logged into the game.  This is when I get discourage and just collect what’s in the mines, collectors, and drills.  Then log back out with disappointment.  I’ve also noticed a lot of people quitting the clan.  Not sure if they’re quitting to quit the game or to join a different clan.  Maybe they think that they might find a more active clan somewhere else.  I’m not even sure if they’ll find the same kind of activity on their new clan, since our clan of 43 people seemed to be dead.  The only time that I see someone in the clan, is to request troops, and this is only about two or three people.

This might seem like I’m complaining too much about their new updates.  But the truth is this, the number of players seemed to be dropping based on what I’ve seen so far.  Even-though I may look like I’m bashing on Clash of Clans, this will always be my to go cell phone platform game.  I can’t wait to see what the new update (Clan Wars League) is all about.  This may be another update in an attempt to save Clash of Clans, or it may be the next big thing Supercell is coming out with.  According to the Clash of Clans News, this update will happen sometime this month (October 2018).

So my question for all of you is this.  Do you think that Clash of Clans is dead or dying?  Or do you think that they still have shot to be successful with the game?  Please leave a comment below and tell me what you think.
